English as a Second Language
Program activities:

LIHIP’s English as a Second Language courses (ESL), serves adult learners through Transition English/Academic Prep. The curriculum includes English reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills combined with topics related to American life skills, culture, and activities to support learners’ employment goals. This curriculum is designed for a multi-lingual group of non-native English speakers with varied English proficiency. The program content is presented in a series of specific connective words and concepts, that are essential in learning to effectively speak and understand the English language. As they master the English language, learners may progress through as many as 6 levels before graduating from the program. The program is combined with computer basic literacy classes to help participants prepare for the workforce and increase employability.

Those who achieve level 3 or higher, and who are interested in a career in healthcare, can enroll in LIHIP’s health coach training program (optional). Other enrollment requirements may apply for those interested, as this is a different program offered by LHIP and it is also available in Spanish.
