This course emphasizes the continued development of the English language with the contextualized training to prepare students to enter the Personal Care Attendance workforce. This course introduces learners to the foundational skills needed for success in the field which includes the building of English Language Skills. This curriculum was developed by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Health and Human Services and MassHealth.
The course is divided into three sections:
-PCA Skills is the component where students learn about being a Personal Care Attendant and the skills needed to professionally perform the PCA tasks.
-Workforce Readiness is the section students will prepare to find employment in the field.
-Medical Terminology is a critical component of your vocabulary building to improve students’ understanding of the medical sector.
Each of the three components of learning is very important to students’ overall development as skilled PCAs in the workforce.
Course Objectives: By completing this course students will have developed & increased the:
-Basic caregiver skills with an emphasis on patient safety.
-Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
-The professionalism and competence commensurate with a Personal Care Attendant.
-Knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology.
