Skilled US Vocational Skills Training
Program activities:

Please enter a detailed description of the program activities the participant will receive below:
Skilled US aims to assist 500 unemployed or underemployed adults in Boston and Cambridge in securing
family-sustaining careers over two years by providing the tools, training and resources needed to secure
high-demand jobs enabling them and their families to achieve or contribute to economic stability.

Skilled US utilizes a multipronged approach to both meet the needs of our students and ensure their success.
Every student is matched with a Career Readiness Specialist who works with them throughout their tenure in
the program. This Specialist provides the scholar with tailored, individual coaching regarding both personal and
professional matters. Students then participate in a series (three weeks) of essential skills workshops that
focus on life, career and workplace skills. Topics include managing time, mitigating stress, budgeting and
money management, building resumes, embarking on the job search process, communicating effectively,
engaging in teamwork, and adapting to change.

After completing the workshops and conducting a comprehensive career assessment, students are offered a
variety of vocational training opportunities designed to equip individuals with the skills and knowledge needed
for success in high-demand fields. Skilled US partners with multiple training providers that deliver practical
experience, ensuring that participants are job ready upon completion. All tuition and associated costs are fully
covered by Skilled US. Additionally, we offer comprehensive wraparound services as needed, such as
childcare, transportation, and financial support if needed to help SNAP participants complete the programs
successfully.

Skilled US is committed to providing comprehensive case management for students enrolled in vocational
training programs. Our case management services ensures that students receive continuous support
throughout their training journey, addressing challenges, overcoming barriers and maximizing their chances of
success. Here is how Skilled US accomplishes this:
● Application and Initial Interview with a Career Assessment Survey:
Participants complete an application and undergo an initial interview, including a career assessment
survey to align success strategies. We develop a customized training plan that aligns with the student’s
career aspirations.
● Second Interview for Conditional Acceptance:
A second interview is conducted to determine conditional acceptance into the program.
● 15-hour Life Skills and Workplace Readiness Workshop:
Participants attend a comprehensive workshop focusing on life skills and workplace readiness.
● Awarding of Tuition-based Scholarships:
Qualified participants receive tuition-based scholarships to support their educational journey.
● Enrollment in Occupational Training:
Participants are then enrolled in occupational training programs that match their assessed needs and
career goals. Skilled US coordinates and serves as the primary point of contact between the student
and the training provider to ensure smooth communication, transition and completion of the program
● Support During Vocational Training:
Actively engage with all participants to remove barriers in preparation for occupational training, during
training and after training.
● Comprehensive Job Search Support:
Assistance with job search strategies and access to our extensive Employment Network.
● Post-Job Acceptance Support:
One year of support following job acceptance to ensure sustained employment.
