This course is designed for students who are interested in basic nursing assistant training with a concentration in advanced skills that are required of a Patient Care Associate within the acute care setting. Students will gain knowledge about more advanced skills that are related to employment in an acute health care setting. Students will learn the theoretical and practical skills necessary to assume the role as a Patient Care Associate (PCA I). Topics include introduction to patient care in the acute setting, specialized responsibilities of care, advanced observation techniques, communication and documentation on computerized databases, and attainment of certification in basic life support techniques. A clinical component is included in this course which provides for the completion of patient care in a designated acute care setting.
Diverse men and women ages 18 and above, from various economic, cultural and educational backgrounds.
