The main components of the program are content and skills training necessary to pass the Massachusetts certification test to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA) through Headmaster/Diversified, the MA state certification test vendor and a home health aide through the MA Home Care Aide Council test. Also included is curriculum related to job readiness (resume writing, cover letter development, interview preparation, exploration of job opportunities, critical thinking), digital literacy (keyboarding, emailing, Google Docs and Slides), dementia training, and Basic Life Support.
The program also includes on-line job searches, a personalized job fair, mock interviews with local employers, 5 days of clinical experience at a long-term care facility and an optional 4 days of job shadowing at Lawrence General Hospital. ln addition, students work in the computerized national adult basic education WorkKeys Curriculum to improve reading, math, and employability skills correlated to the O’Net job description for CNAs. Candidates must pass three WorkKeys exams to receive the ACT National Work readiness certificate.
A health exam, covid and flu vaccinations, and an acceptable CORI are required for admission to the program, as well as a middle school English reading and math level.
Compassionate adult caregivers interested in employment as home health aides and nursing assistants.
