This comprehensive 210-hour program will introduce students to medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, OSHA regulations, blood-borne pathogens, universal precautions, ethics, and applicable law. Students will familiarize themselves with test requirements, tube identification, procedures, and protocols for lab safety.
Part 1: Phlebotomy course, 90 hours
Part 2: Externship, 120 hours (in addition to Work Readiness trainings)
Phlebotomy Technicians work mainly in hospitals, medical and diagnostic laboratories, blood donor centers, and doctors’ offices. primary job is to draw blood from a patient or donor for tests, transfusions, blood donations, or research. Their duties frequently include the following: Draw blood from patients and blood donors Ensure proper labeling of the blood Label the drawn blood for testing or processing Enter patient information into a database Assemble and maintain medical instruments
Job Outlook
The Bureau of Labor and Statistics projects employment of Phlebotomists will increase 17% between 2019 and 2029. This is much faster than average. (bls.gov)
Salary:
The median salary of Phlebotomists was $36,320 per year in 2020. In Massachusetts metropolitan areas, the hourly average wage was $20.24 and the annual average wage was $42,100. (bls.gov)
Certification:
Graduates of this course will be prepared for the American Society Phlebotomy Technicians (ASPT) National Certification exam, and The National Healthcare Association (NHA) National Certification Exam

This program is open to any eligible student in MA. Most students are residents of Boston, particularly the areas of Dorchester, Roxbury, and Mattapan.

The didactic portion of the program is offered at Roxbury Community College (RCC). The externship portion takes place at various partnerships sites in the greater Boston area. RCC and Boston locations are fully accessible via public transportation.
