Root Alumni Employment Program

Root’s Alumni Employment Program is a six-month transitional employment program on Root’s kitchen team for graduates of Root’s Culinary Training Program. Participants will gain additional training and work experience across Root’s three social enterprises: School Lunches, Retail Catering, and Community Catering. 

Participants will work directly and learn from Root’s kitchen management team and will build on skills developed in the Culinary Training Program including, but not limited to, prep, dish, receiving and packing orders, cleaning and organizing, order fulfillment, bulk preparation, kitchen production, recipe development, and inventory management. This is an excellent opportunity for alumni of Root’s Culinary Training Program to gain additional skills and real-world experience in the culinary field. 

Participants will:

• Work with colleagues and kitchen staff on daily production as needed for catering and community meals
• Assist with packing and unpacking all orders, deliveries and event related material
• Help to maintain the cleanliness of all enterprise related areas including, the cafe, event space, kitchen, and waste management area
• Move easily between stations and assignments, willing and able to perform each part of kitchen production, including learning equipment, recipes, and tools
• Under direction of kitchen management team, assist with menu development, ordering and inventory
• Arrive to work on time, appropriately groomed, dressed and ready to work; work all scheduled shifts and attend required trainings and meetings
• Have a positive attitude, be ready to work hard, and eager to learn

Participants Benefits:

• Months 1-3: $17.00/hour - 30 hours/week
• Months 4-6: $18.00/hour - 30 hours/week
• Transportation stipend $100/month (prorated depending on start date)
