The Clean Energy Solar/Wind Turbine Training Combines classroom lectures with hands on lab time at the CWS Facility.
The training program, Community Work Services Energy Institute (CWESEI), is an intensive 15-week program that was developed by CWS, Power52, and CEA consist of 225 hours of classroom/online work with an additional 225 hours of labs and practicum. In order to mitigate barriers to graduation, participants will work one-on-one with Case Managers to create a tailored plan of wrap-around supports to meet their needs.
Our curriculum will include soft skills attainment while CWS Career Placement will provide employer matching assistant so that graduate will not only secure but maintain their employment at companies that best fit their needs and interests.
Certified Employee Training Program (CETP) has an existing curriculum developed for solar photovoltaic installation that has been delivered successfully in a similar training program in operation in Maryland that will be adapted for use in Boston City based on employer recommendations. The curriculum for wind turbine technician training will build upon common elements included in the solar photovoltaic installation curriculum and will diverge after students complete the core curriculum elements necessary for both training programs.
The training program is designated to last 450 hours over the course of about 15 weeks. The program will be broken up into 5 segments with 90 hours dedicated to each segment. These segments will include a core curriculum of OSHA 10 training, Life Skills, an introduction to power tools, blueprinting, and material handling before splitting off to cover industry specific training in solar and wind turbine installation. Program participants will attend a combination of theory and lab courses five days a week for 6 hours a day. All lab hours will be conducted in person while theory hours will be delivered both in person and virtually. We will begin the program with two cohorts of 20 students each during our program ramp up period.
A unique aspect of this program is that graduates will also be awarded 6 college credits from Paul Smith’s College that they can apply towards attaining an associate or bachelor’s degree, allowing graduates to establish a strong pathway to upward mobility.
The Job Readiness Training Program focuses on building professional soft skills and learning how to conduct a successful job search. Courses include personal branding, workplace etiquette, getting along with co-workers and supervisors, resume writing and interviewing skills.
